WEST MONROE -- In the Twin Cities, special visitors came to West Monroe High School on Sunday.
The United States Navy Concert Band took their 2014 National Tour to the Home of the Rebels Sunday afternoon, performing a number of American classical pieces and even some Broadway show tunes.
This is the band's fifth stop in the last five days across the country, trying to spread naval outreach in each city they perform in.
West Monroe was selected as one of 22 cities in six states to host a performance by the band in 2014.
The performance was free and open to the public.
These national tours return following a year in which sequestration and its impact on outreach spending forced several of them to be suspended.
"Bring the Navy out to parts of the country that normally don't get to see their Navy sailors in uniform, so we get to represent all the other sailors around the world and show the people here in West Monroe what a great job their Navy's doing," said Chief Musician Courtney Williams.
The concert band has been performing in public concerts and events for almost 100 years.
Members of the West Monroe Rebel Band were even invited to play with the Navy band on a few special pieces.
