ROCKY BRANCH- Fire Fighters have a new truck in Rocky Branch.

It’s the first time in more than 30-years the all-volunteer department has had a brand new truck.  Since opening in 1982 The Rocky Branch / Crossroads Fire District has worked with previously used trucks to get the job done.

The new F-550 Super-Duty has a 6.7 Power Stroke Turbo Diesel, powerful enough to haul nearly 13,000 gallons of water.

The district covers more than 47 sq. miles in Union Parish, and serves more than 2,600 residents.

Chief Bobby Green says many of the fires they fight are out in the woods.

“We have to bring our own water,” said Green. “There aren't any hydrants that are handy to hook up to so generally on most of our fires we have to bring what we use."

He adds that having a reliable truck is necessary when it comes to an emergency.

The department has 20 active volunteer fire fighters, and several other vehicles.
