EL DORADO -- The El Dorado Municipal Auditorium is a 60-year-old facility that has not had any major renovations since 1970.
To help make the auditorium more functional, the El Dorado Economic Development Board is planning a project to refurbish it.
The El Dorado Municipal Auditorium hosts a lot of El Dorado events.
"Local dance recitals, graduations, some church services at times. Just random community events like that," says Givens.
Even some of the biggest names in country music have taken the stage at the auditorium.
"We've hosted Willie Nelson, Kenny Rodgers, Dwight Yocum, Mearl Haggard, Scooby Doo Live, Mercy Me, Michael W. Smith," says Givens.
Mark Givens, Executive Director of Main Street El Dorado, says the auditorium needs quite a bit of work.
"There needs to be quite a bit of work done to the backstage area, dressing room area, the parking lots, the loading areas, the lobby or foyer. There's quite a long list of things that can be done to improve," says Givens.
Givens says if El Dorado wants to become a destination city, it must invest in its facilities.
"Bringing in 1500 to 1800 people per show, and creating an economic impact on the community. So, for it to remain in use there needs to be some work done to it," says Givens
The Board tells us they plan on having final reports and estimate costs to present to city council before the end of the month.
