Rare April tropical storm forms in the Atlantic; storm named 'Arlene'

WEST MONROE, La. - A rare tropical storm has formed out over the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean in the middle of April.

This is one of only a few times that a tropical storm has developed in April in recent history.

Hurricane season doesn't officially begin until June 1st.

This storm receives the name "Arlene", which is the first on the list of names for 2017.

The next storm to form after this one will be named Bret.

The storm doesn't post any threats to land, but is interesting because it developed earlier in the season.
