Ouachita Parish Public Library Celebrates Children's Book Week

West Monroe -- The Ouachita Parish Public Library’ will celebrate the 95th annual Children’s Book Week, May 12-18, 2014, by holding a series of events featuring special guest, Pete the Cat. The national celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading was established in 1919 and is the longest-running literacy initiative in the country. Each year, commemorative events are held nationwide at schools, libraries, bookstores, homes -- wherever young readers and books connect.

Events at Ouachita Parish Public Library during Children’s Book Week include:
•Tuesday, May 13, 3:30 pm: Join us at Searcy Memorial Branch for movies and a special visit from Pete the Cat.
•Wednesday, May 14, 10:30 am: Join us at Ouachita Valley Branch for Storytime that includes a visit and photo op with Pete the Cat.
•Thursday, May 15, 10:30 am: Join us at Anna Meyer Family Learning Center for stories and songs with a visit from Pete the Cat!
•Thursday, May 15, 3:30 pm: Join us at the West Monroe Branch for a Special Storytime and visit from Pete the Cat.
•Saturday, May 17, 12:00 pm: Join us at the Main Branch for Fun and Games with Pete the Cat. Listen to stories, make a craft and take your picture with Pete the Cat.
All participants attending Children’s Book Week programs will receive a ticket to win 1 of 2 kid’s tablets to be given away on May 17th. The tablets were generously donated by Friends of the Ouachita Public Library.

The program is free and open to the public.
