Troopers will focus much of their attention on aggressive drivers, speeders, and those who do not wear their seat belts or properly restrain children. Louisiana State Police is currently participating in the nationwide Click It or Ticket initiative and will be proactively seeking unrestrained drivers and their passengers.
Trooper will also be patrolling for impaired drivers as there is a trend of increased alcohol consumption during holiday weekends. Motorists caught driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you will be arrested. The citizens who travel our roadways deserve to be safe from those who choose to drive impaired. Always designate a sober driver and remember that if you have had ANYTHING to drink you should not drive.
“Let’s make safety a priority this Memorial Day. Please buckle up, drive defensively and have a plan when consuming alcoholic beverages. No family should have to suffer this weekend due to poor choices being made by someone while operating a motor vehicle,” said Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent.
For those who plan to travel this weekend, make sure your vehicle is current on routine maintenance and tires have adequate tread depth and are properly inflated according to vehicle manufacturer’s instructions. It is also prudent to be well-rested and have alternate routes planned in advance in case of unexpected road closures.
If you are in need of assistance or witness hazardous road conditions, possibly impaired drivers, or aggressive driving, you are encouraged to report it by dialing *LSP (577) from your mobile phone. This is a community effort, and we need your help in keeping the roadways safe!
The Louisiana State Police would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day holiday.
