Monroe Police Hosting Community Awareness Day

Monroe -- The Monroe Police and Fire Departments are holding a Community Awareness Day this Saturday.

The event kicks off at 11 a.m. Saturday on Bendel Field at Forsythe Park and will last until 3 p.m.

The police department will discuss seat belt use, neighborhood watch programs, gun safety, texting while driving and social media.

The fire department will discuss fire extinguisher protocols, grease fire safety, fire prevention and gas heater safety. Attendants will receive free smoke detectors courtesy of the fire department.
