WEST MONROE -- Blue Star Mothers of Northeast Louisiana and the local community got together Saturday to pack boxes for troops in Afghanistan. An assembly line of volunteers worked for five hours sorting and packing over 130 packages.

Toiletries, comfort food, and even Christmas cards were included- all of it donated by the community.

Travis Ray of the US Army describes his personal experience of getting these care packages overseas. Ray said, "You receive packages from people that you just never imagine so it means a lot when you read their letters and read their notes - a lot of words of inspriation."

Kimberly Joines, a Blue Star Mother, said, "This is like a piece of home and it represents family."

Blue Star Mothers will be shipping the boxes by December 2nd so that the troops can receive their gifts before Christmas.
