The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced today that the Joyce Wildlife Management Area Swamp Walk parking area will be temporarily closed starting May 20, 2014, for work to begin on replacing the popular boardwalk.
The Swamp Walk, located in Tangipahoa Parish just south of Ponchatoula and east of Interstate 55, has been closed since August 2012 due to damage sustained during Hurricane Isaac.
The work to be done includes removing the damaged boardwalk, repairing three observation platforms and constructing the new boardwalk. The parking area and boardwalk will remain closed for the duration of the project as a safety precaution.
The construction completion is scheduled for the end of August.
