Changing the way you eat can reduce many health risk factors. It can lower your cholesterol, blood pressure, and weight.
Know that your diet doesn't have to be bland or boring to be healthy. Help your family benefit from healthy eating habits by following these three steps:
1) Eat less fat
2) Eat less salt
3) Eat more fiber
To reduce fat in your diet you should eat fewer fatty cuts of meat and more fish. Avoiding butter and margarine also decreases fat intake.
To decrease salt, do not add it when cooking and keep the salt shaker off the table. Instead of salt, season your food with herbs and flavorings such as lemon, garlic, and onion.
Finally, eating fresh fruits and vegetables increase fiber in your diet. Beans and potatoes are also excellent sources of fiber.
