MONROE -- The Mardi Gras fun kicked off on Saturday morning with the Children's Parade at the Pecanland Mall.
Kids ages ten and under walked, rolled and rode along with their parents and guardians.
Many kids dressed up and tossed beads to the crowd as they paraded all around the mall.
Prizes were awarded in different categories for the best floats.
But for the kids and their parents, they said they love the bonding that comes with float-making.
"I took off work and stayed up all night, but it's all for him and for the other kids. We threw a lot of beads. We had beads that we'd caught and collected over the years," said Trey Hill, a parade parent.
A whopping 2,000 people piled into the mall for the parade, according to organizers.
Pecanland Mall directors said it also brought more shoppers to the stores inside, some of which also had floats in the parade.
