MONROE -- Two boil orders are under effect in Ouachita Parish due to a lightning strike.
On Thursday night, local water company officials said that a lightning strike damaged equipment at the elevated and ground water storage tanks on Highway 165.
This affects the Greater Ouachita Water Company and the North Monroe Water System.
Officials said this affects about 1,000 customers of the Greater Ouachita Water Company in the Frenchman's Bend and Keystone Road area, which experienced low or no water pressure on Friday afternoon.
As a result of the loss of pressure, the companies are issuing a precautionary boil advisory for customers in and around Thatcher Point, Keystone Road, Frenchman's Ben and Fairbanks.
Customers are advised to boil water for one full minute before use. The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil.
Great Ouachita Water Company is collecting water samples that will be tested by the state lab. Officials said results are expected on Tuesday, April 8.
