Arrest Made in a South Arkansas Shooting
EL DORADO -- Police responded to a call around 1:30 this morning in the Roselawn, Edmonds area of El Dorado.
"During speaking with the complainant, we were advised that there were some ongoing issues that occurred earlier in the evening in another part of town," said Capt. Kevin Holt with the El Dorado Police Department.
Police say that the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the suspect, Shanitha Morgan and the victim, Nivea Smith.
"The victim and the suspect had been having an ongoing issue, a disturbance basically every time they see each other over a male subject," said Holt.
Police say this whole issue stemmed from Smith having an intimate relationship with Morgan's boyfriend.
Morgan waited for Smith to cross the street of Trinity and Edmonds, and fired 3-shots at Smith’s car.
"We also were advised that there were 2 small children, under the age of 5, in the car at the time of the shooting," said Holt.
Morgan is charged with aggravated assault and with endangering the welfare of a minor.
"She was incarcerated this morning at the Union County Criminal Justice Facility and was scheduled to make a first appearance today in 35th Judicial Court," said Holt.
No one was injured in the shooting.
